Jason DeBacker is an Associate Professor of Economics in the Darla Moore School of Business at the University of South Carolina. He is also an Academic Consultant for the Large Business and International Division at the Internal Revenue Service, Vice President of Research for Open Research Group, Inc., and President of PSL Foundation. Jason earned a BBA in Management Information Systems from the University of Georgia and MS and PhD degrees in economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Jason specializes in the economics of taxation, macroeconomics, and firm dynamics. His research in these areas includes over two dozen publications, with articles in American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, Journal of Law and Economics, National Tax Journal, and other outlets.
In the past, Jason has been a Non-Resident Fellow of the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center, an Economist at the Open Source Policy Center at the American Enterprise Institute, a Financial Economist at the United States Department of Treasury’s Office of Tax Analysis, and in academic positions at the University of Georgia and Middle Tennessee State University. Currently, Jason is involved in the development of open source software for policy analysis and maintains several open source projects including Tax-Calculator, Cost-of-Capital-Calculator, OG-Core, and OG-USA.
