Jacob Sorenson

Graduate Research Fellow

Bio

Jake was a Graduate Research Fellow with the Center for Growth and Opportunity. He graduated with his Masters in Economics in Fall 2023. He completed his undergraduate degree in Economics in Fall 2021.

In Spring 2022, Jake became a member of the CGO, focusing his research on immigration, the environment, and experimental economics. His decision to join the CGO was driven by his admiration for the high-quality policy research conducted within the organization. Jake’s research revolves around topics such as immigration and the minimum effort game, as well as nuclear power plants.

If given the opportunity to share one enlightening fact with the world, Jake would emphasize the paradoxical nature of ignorance. He believes that the more ignorant we are, the more likely we are to think we possess extensive knowledge. Recognizing this paradox reminds us to be humble and open-minded, acknowledging that there is always more to learn.

After graduation, Jake plans to pursue a PhD in economics at George Mason University.

About Student Research Fellowships

Research Fellows at the Center for Growth and Opportunity work alongside CGO’s research staff and a worldwide network of scholars. Our fellows are integral components to the Center’s research process.

During their fellowships, graduate students have the opportunity to write independently as well as contribute to ongoing research. Students are guided through the research process as they help answer questions related to technology and innovation, environmental stewardship, immigration, and tax policy. CGO fellows are encouraged to share their research at academic conferences, poster exhibitions, and symposiums. Our fellows also work with the Center’s outreach team to get their research to the right people, at the right time in order to make real changes in the world.
