David Weakliem

David L. Weakliem is a Professor Emeritus of Sociology. He earned his PhD from the University of Wisconsin in 1987.

David started teaching at Cornell University from 1987 to 1991, then at Indiana University from 1991 to 1994. In 1994, he joined the University of Connecticut, where he stayed until his retirement in 2021. From 1996 to 1997, he spent time at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.

David’s academic interests encompass political sociology, with a focus on public opinion, social stratification, and quantitative methods. He is the author of several notable publications, including his latest book “Public Opinion” (Polity), released in 2020. In 2016, he published “Hypothesis Testing and Model Selection in the Social Sciences” (Guilford), which delves into classical and Bayesian approaches to hypothesis testing and explores the concept of “information criteria” in balancing goodness of fit with complexity.
