The Center for Growth and Opportunity is proud to announce that one of its student research fellows, Alexandra Tebbs, won the undergraduate social sciences category of USU’s Spring Student Research Symposium. Alex, an Amy Rees Anderson Academic Entrepreneur, presented research titled, “Double-Jeopardy or Not? Investigating the Experience of Black Women Entrepreneurs Seeking Small Business Financing.”
The COVID-19 pandemic forced the SRS to move to an online format. Alex’s win is even more impressive considering the last-minute adaptations necessary to present her work virtually. “I am grateful for the support and guidance that the CGO has given me throughout the research process,” she said.
Professor Sterling Bone, Alex’s faculty mentor, explained the importance of the research. It “will be presented to both government stakeholders, including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), and to stakeholders in the private sector, including the banks and their trade associations, to help educate and inform those with fair-lending oversight to protect the interest of minority women small business growth in the United States,” he said.
